With Skipper
If you choose a boat rental in Ibiza with a skipper, you can enjoy the coasts of this beautiful Mediterranean island on board a bigger boat with superior features to a regular one that doesn’t require a license. Safe in the knowledge that an Open Boats professional is at the helm, you can kick back, relax and focus on enjoying an unforgettable day.
There are many advantages to choosing a boat rental with a skipper, as our captains can pilot bigger, better-equipped boats, and know the best routes and places to visit in and around Ibiza.
Having a captain also provides added safety, as it means you’ll have an experienced professional at the helm of the boat: someone who knows what to do – and what not to do – at all times, and who is responsible for the safety of everyone on board.
At Open Boats, we offer you a service of the highest quality at a good price that gives you the chance to enjoy the coasts, beaches and coves of Ibiza in a unique way. Setting off from Sant Antoni de Portmany harbour (one of the best places for getting to know the island from the sea), where we are based, we offer you the option of renting our largest boats with the best features: modern boats over 7 metres in length that provide maximum safety and top-line features.
That’s why we offer you a hiring service, so you can leave piloting the boat to an experienced Open Boats captain, while you and yours settle down to enjoy your time on board a luxury boat, with all the comforts you could desire.
Our boats with a captain are equipped with a whole host of extras: a fridge, music system with Bluetooth, toilet, sunbathing area, awning… and anything else you’d like to request. We also offer a food and drink service on board to make sure you want for nothing in your experience at sea, as well as the option of renting snorkelling equipment and lilos, floats, etc.
If you wish, after your rental finishes, you and your companions can also use the changing rooms and showers in the Yacht Club (Club Naútico) at Sant Antoni de Portmany, where our boats are moored, free of charge.
You can rent our boats for half a day (4 hours: from 11:00 am to 3 pm or from 4 pm to 8 pm), or a full day (8 hours: you choose when to start and finish). The price of the boat rental in Ibiza with a skipper we offer at Open Boats depends on whether you choose a half day or full day; the cost of hiring a captain for the boat is 80 euros for half a day and 150 euros for a full day.
Whichever rental period you choose, remember that we are the owners of the boats, so you’ll find the best prices on our website, free of middlemen and extra fees. Don’t hesitate to get in touch: we’ll provide all the information you need, with no commitment to rent with us.
Anyone of any age can hire our boats over 7 metres in length with a skipper, as the captain is the person responsible for the boat and the safety of all on board. To reserve a boat with a captain, the quickest and easiest way is to book the boat on our website. You’ll need to make an advance payment of 30% of the rental price to confirm the booking, and the rest is paid at the harbour on the day of the rental itself, before you get on board.
You can hire the boat’s skipper from the website during the booking process, by selecting the “captain” option from the list of extras, or you can contact us directly (by WhatsApp, email, telephone…) to let us know that you want to hire a captain. The price of hiring the skipper’s services (80 or 150 euros) is paid on the day of the rental at the harbour.
Given that the skipper will be fully responsible for the boat, there is no need to leave a deposit with this type of rental. Don’t forget that you can change the date, free of charge; and if the weather or sea conditions are not suitable for taking the boat out, we’ll help you find another suitable day. And if that’s not possible, don’t worry: we’ll refund you 100% of the money. That’s our guarantee.
Please also remember that fuel is not included in the price, and is paid for separately. The cost depends on the route you choose (when renting a boat with a captain, it’s possible to go on longer trips): the fuel costs for a journey along the western coast of Ibiza can range between 70 and 120 euros, while a return trip to the island of Formentera could cost between 160 and 200 euros. Bear in mind that fuel consumption depends on the number and weight of the occupants, the route chosen, and the speed at which you wish to travel.
At Open Boats, we give you two options for renting a boat in San Antonio with a skipper, both of which are fully-equipped, luxury vessels:
Bayliner VR6:
Purchased completely new in 2022, this is a strikingly beautiful boat that is fully equipped with extras: wooden floor, music system and a range of high-spec features such as extra-comfort chairs, cup-holders and premium materials… It has sunbathing areas at the bow and the stern, and a central table.
The boat has a sporty silhouette with no cabin to maximize space on deck.
It is 7 metres in length and has a 225 HP engine that provides high performance with low fuel consumption. Its maximum capacity is 9 people (+ the captain).
Crowline E6:
At 8 metres in length with a 350 HP engine, this is a larger boat with more room on deck than the Bayliner VR6, making it ideal for large groups and families.
It is a boat without a cabin, with two sunbathing areas at bow and stern, a swim platform, and a large music system.
Its maximum capacity is also 9 people (+ the captain).
All the boats we offer for rental at Open Boats have the best equipment and guarantee maximum comfort and top-level features, as well as all the safety measures needed for risk-free travel at sea.
Two top professionals captain our boats here at Open Boats. David and Pablo are two young captains whose friendliness, courtesy and wealth of experience at sea set them apart. You’ll feel totally safe in their hands, knowing that there is a seasoned professional at the helm who knows the coast of Ibiza inside and out.
Both Pablo and David live in Ibiza and know better than anybody which places are worth visiting on the Ibizan coast and its surroundings: they’ll show you its best-kept secrets and the most well-hidden, peaceful coves… With them, you’ll visit places of great beauty that can only be reached by sea, spectacular caves, impressive cliffs, and areas of crystal-clear water that are great for snorkelling.
You can rent a boat with a skipper from 350 euros (half a day) or 500 euros (full day). The cost of hiring the skipper (captain) is 80 euros (half a day) or 150 euros (full day).
The captain will take you to stunning places on the coast of Ibiza, show you the best beaches and coves that can only be reached by sea, and accompany you to caves and islets with fascinating histories… You can sunbathe on board, listen to music, eat and drink on the boat, do activities like snorkelling or swimming, watch the sunset…
While you can choose the route you’d like to take, the most popular itineraries are:
Up to 9 people, not counting the captain.
Boat reservations are made through our website: this is the quickest, easiest and cheapest way to book. Once you’ve made your booking, contact us over WhatsApp, telephone or email to let us know that you need a captain, and we’ll include it in your reservation. It’s that simple.
The timings for boat rentals with a skipper are as follows:
Given that the boat will be controlled by a skipper, he has the knowledge and experience to handle any incident that occurs at sea. Follow his instructions at all times.
Of course, although we advise being open to suggestions: our captains know the area inside and out, and can recommend the most interesting places to visit.
As the captain will take charge of everything on board, and is responsible for the boat and all its occupants, anyone can rent a boat with a skipper, whether they are over 18 or not.
Generally, yes: by choosing a boat piloted by a skipper, you’ll have access to larger boats that you couldn’t normally use by yourself.
The skipper is responsible for the safety of everyone on board, for piloting the boat and for guiding the passengers through any problem that may arise.
